Sean Snyder
Inducted 2024
Sean Snyder
Born: Anaheim, Calif.
Graduated: Grapevine (Texas) H.S., 1988/Iowa/Kansas State Univ., 1992
Sean Snyder joins the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame 18 years after his father, Bill Snyder, was
inducted. Bill, the legendary Kansas State football coach, and Sean, the All-American punter and
distinguished special teams coach, represent the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame’s first father-son duo.
However, individual accolades were never the focal point for either of the Snyders. “Everything to me was get out, work hard and do the best you can do,” Sean Snyder said. “It was never a goal to be an All-American. It was never a goal to be in the Hall of Fame. It was ‘do the best you can for the team at the time,’ and that’s kind of the way I’ve always done things in my life.”
Sean Snyder was born Sept. 21, 1969, and graduated from Greenville (Texas) High School in 1988.
He played one season at the University of Iowa before transferring to compete for his father at
Kansas State.
For the Wildcats, Snyder was named the 1991 Big Eight Defensive Newcomer of the Year as a
punter, as well as a consensus first-team All-America selection in 1992. He also was named all-
conference in 1991 and 1992.
Snyder set school records at Kansas State for total punt yardage with 3,572 and punt average with 44.7 yards in 1992. In a game against Colorado that season, Snyder punted 12 times with a 52.5 yard average.
He was selected to play in the Senior Bowl and then signed free agent deals with the NFL’s Phoenix Cardinals in 1993 and the San Diego Chargers in 1994.
Following his playing career, Snyder became an assistant coach and administrator at Kansas State, serving for 26 years in the roles of director of football operations, special teams coordinator and assistant head coach.
He received national Specials Teams Coordinator of the Year honors in 2015 and 2017.
After his time at Kansas State, Snyder coached at USC, Illinois and KU. In 2024, he became the special teams coach for Oklahoma State.
Snyder was named to the Kansas State Football Ring of Honor in 2002 and the Kansas State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016.
