In 1999, the Topeka Capital-Journal named Lucius Oliver Allen, Jr. of Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, as the greatest high school basketball player in Kansas during the 20th century. Allen was a prep All-American player under legendary head coach Walt Shublom and was named consensus first-team all-state as a junior and senior as he led Wyandotte to back-to-back Class AA state championships in 1964 and ‘65. He was recruited by UCLA head coach John Wooden, signed with the Bruins and joined teammate Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) in leading UCLA to three consecutive NCAA championships, 1967-’68 and ‘69. In six years of varsity play at Wyandotte and UCLA, Allen was on the losing end just four times. Following his college days, Allen was drafted by the Seattle Supersonics as the No. 3 overall pick in the 1969 NBA Draft. He was then traded with former Kansas State great Bob Boozer to the Milwaukee Bucks one year later and helped the Bucks to the 1971 NBA World Championship. In 10 NBA seasons, Allen averaged 13.4 points a game for the Supersonics, Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers and Kansas City Kings. He averaged over 19 points a game for the Bucks and Lakers in 1975 and scored 9,407 points in his professional career from 1969-79. Born September 26, 1947 – Kansas City, Kansas.
