Dick Foster was always a winner, whether it was at the high school or college level. He is the only coach to lead two different schools to junior college national championships – Fort Scott in 1970 and Coffeyville in 1983. He guided Fort Scott to a 19-2 record in two seasons before spending four seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Kansas. He took over the Coffeyville Community College football program in 1975 and, in 14 seasons, won 127 games; was ranked in the Top 15 ever year and won a national NJCAA title in ’83. Foster retired from coaching with the highest winning percentage in the history of the NJCAA, 146-25-2, .850. He coached 47 All-Americans, and over 30 of them played in the National Football League. One of his players at Coffeyville – running back Mike Rozier, signed with the University of Nebraska and won the Heisman Trophy in 1983. Foster is a charter member of the NJCAA Football Hall of Fame and the athletic complex at Coffeyville Community College was named after him. Foster was named the recruiting director at the University of Oklahoma in 1989 and held that position until 1997. He began his coaching career at Platte City (Mo.) High School in 1957. The program hadn’t won a game in two seasons or a championship in 40 years, but Foster led Platte City to nine conference titles in 12 years. Born January 24, 1934 - Nevada, MO.
