LYNN DICKEY
1949 –
Inducted – 1997

Lynn Dickey’s impact on Kansas State University’s football program was immediate and lasting. Named the greatest quarterback in history of the Big-8 conference by the AP in 1996, the rifle-armed Dickey set school and conference marks that have withstood the test of time. He quarterbacked wins over every conference foe during his career, but he will forever be remembered for his performance in “the game” when he passed for 380 yards as K-State handed Oklahoma its worst defeat in history, 59-21 in 1969. After a successful career in high school where he led Osawatomie to an undefeated state championship, Dickey continued on to K-State where he passed for 6,208 yards and 29 touchdowns and is credited with 5,779 yards of total offense. He passed for over 380 yards four times with his high game of 439 versus Colorado in 1969. A two-time All-Big Eight quarterback, Dickey was named the game’s MVP in the East/West Shrine Bowl following his senior year. A third round pick of the Houston Oilers in 1971, he stayed in Houston until 1976, when he joined the Green Bay Packers. During his 10 years with the Packers, he passed for more than 19,000 yards and completed 56.4 percent of his passes. Dickey led the NFL in 1983 with 4,458 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and completed over 60 percent of his passes. Dickey is a member of the K-State Athletic Hall of Fame, the Packer Hall of Fame and his uniform number 11 was the first retired by Kansas State. Born October 19, 1949 – Paola, KS; Graduated Osawatomie (KS) H.S., 1967; Kansas State University, 1971.
