Gary Lee Carrier was one of the greatest basketball players in the history of Washburn University. He led the Ichabods to the 1982 District 10 Championship and the NAIA National Tournament. Carrier ended his career as the all-time leading scorer and rebounder in school history with 2,626 points and 1,167 rebounds. While at Washburn, Carrier was named all-conference four times as well as NAIA first-team All-American in 1984 and ‘85. He was honored as the Central States Intercollegiate Conference’s Player of the Year twice and finished his four-year career averaging 20.4 points and 9.0 rebounds a game. Carrier was a third-round draft choice by the Kansas City Sizzlers of the Continental Basketball Association. He was inducted into the Washburn Athletics Hall of Fame in 1996. Carrier was also the all-time leading scorer in Council Grove High School basketball history with 1,309 points. He averaged 25.1 points a game as a senior and was a four-year letterman for the Braves. Carrier was also a four-year golf letterman. Born March 17, 1962 – Atchison, Kansas.
