Inducted - 1996

Voted to the All–time All-Big Eight basketball team in 1996, Kansas University’s Danny Manning was a two-time consensus All-American (1987 and 1988), three-time Big Eight Player of the Year (1986-1988), consensus college player of the year (Naismith, Wooden, Kodak) in 1988 and Most Outstanding Player in the 1988 NCAA Championships. Manning left Kansas as the Big-Eight’s all-time leading scorer with 2,951 points, fifth in NCAA history. He also finished as KU’s all-time leading rebounder with 1,187, second in blocked shots (200) and steals (270) and sixth in assists (342). His 942 points scored as a senior established the single-season record at Kansas, breaking his own record of 860 points set in 1987. Manning and his parents moved to Kansas in 1983 when KU coach Larry Brown named Manning’s father, Ed, as one of his assistant coaches. He was the 1984 Kansas Player of the Year at Lawrence High School and was one of only two high school players invited to the U.S. Olympic basketball trials. As a collegian, he led KU to a 133-34 record, four NCAA tournament appearances, two Final Fours and a national championship. In the 1988 NCAA title game against Oklahoma, Manning scored 31 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in what was termed one of the great individual performances in tournament history. Manning played in an NCAA-record 147 games and later played on the 1988 United States Olympic team in Seoul, South Korea. He was the No. 1 selection that year in the National Basketball Association draft by the Los Angeles Clippers. Born May 17, 1966 – Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Graduated Lawrence (KS) H.S., 1984. University of Kansas, 1988.
