The Kansas Sports Hall of Fame, located at the Wichita Boathouse in beautiful Wichita, Kansas, is proud to announce that former KU basketball coach Ted Owens will be on hand on December 3, 2013, to speak about his 19 years at KU and to share highlights of his career, answer questions, and to sell and autograph his new book, At the Hang-Up.

The evening will kick off with a Social Hour beginning at 5:00, followed by a meal and the Ted Owens program. Tickets for the event are $20 in advance and may be purchased by calling the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame at 316-262-2038 or online at www.kshof.org.

Ted Owens spent nineteen years as the head basketball coach for the University of Kansas Jayhawks from 1964 to 1983 and was one of the most successful coaches in the country during that time. Owens amassed a record of 348-182, won six Big-8 Conference titles, nine Big-8 Tournament titles, and his Jayhawks made Final Four appearances in 1971 and ‘74. Owens was named Big-8 Coach of the Year five times and National Coach of the Year in 1978. His 348 wins at KU was second only to Phog Allen when he left, and he still holds the record for most wins at Allen Fieldhouse. Owens coached Jayhawk All-Americans Dave Robisch, Bud Stallworth, Darnell Valentine, Walt Wesley, and JoJo White. He was inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.

Owens’s book, At the Hang-Up, shares the story of the survival of a family built upon love, sacrifice and the importance of family strength, as well as the ups and downs of building a coaching career. The book gives insights to what Owens has learned through life and coaching and tells wonderful, never-before-told stories of his time as the head basketball coach for the Kansas Jayhawks.
